Josey - 6ft (2) 9/25/19

Today was the day I actually went to 6ft press and did work from there. I arrived and met Mr. Voorhees who turns out is super nice and got a little tour of there space. The whole space is super nice with lots of room and three floors. We went into his office and I learned more about what his job was at 6ft press, who he worked with and I met a lot of people who worked with him. So we just talked for a while about what I was interested in and what I wanted to learn about while I was there then I started working on reading these twitter posts about Native Americans. He had this idea for a story about Native Americans who traveled to London and the Carribbean from Florida because of a twitter post he had seen. So I looked through all the posts and tried to find more links of articles about something along the lines of this. So for about 45 minutes I worked on this before I was invited to go and have a demonstration of a virtual reality company that was there. They had VR goggles and you c...

Josey - Writespace (11) 9/19/19

I also wasn't able to go to Writespace this week because of the huge amounts of rain all over Houston and being sent home from school. There just wasn't really a way to get there, but again I got sent work that I could do from home. So when I got home from school I started sorting through files of pictures Ms. Clarke had sent me. These were pictures from Writefest and from Workshops and Housewarming parties and readings. There were lots of pictures I hadn't seen before, but they gave a little bit more of an idea of what goes on. Although there were not too many pictures it was still a decent amount to look though, and it was my job to find the ones that looked captivating and made Writespace and Writefest look like a fun place to be. Although I was a little sad I didn't get to go to Writespace I was very happy with the task I was given because I felt like I really got to see what goes on at Writefest and during workshops at Writespace. It was intereseting to see people ...

Josey - 6ft Press Blog (1) 9/18/19

I was a little nervous to go to my first day at 6ft press but since it was pouring rain I didn't end up actually going there, instead I got sent work at school. I wasn't really sure what to expect but I got sent some work and it ended up being quite a bit. First I went through and read the childrens books they had written there and that was actually very interesting because I saw what kind of writing they are doing, the styles and the illustration. After I had read the book I had to search for awards the books could qualify for, this could be as broad as best childrens book or as specific as best childrens book written by an African America Author. I had some trouble at first trying to figure out what awards to find, but eventually I found a few that I started to be able to apply to multiple of the books. It was very different than something I had ever done and I learned a lot more about what writing awards are out there. I had no idea there were so many and some of them were s...

Josey - Internship Blog (10) 9/12/19

I went back to Writespace for the first time after winter break and was a little nervous to be back, but I was also very excited. When I first got there I started by talking more about what I wanted to do over the next semester. I knew I wanted to learn more about the workshops and how they are put together and what happens during them so this is how I spent the first few minutes of my time. After I went to something I had done before, where I was putting information into a website to promote the events. This is a task that can get very repetitive, and it did a little bit, but I also got to see all of the workshops that were happening from now through December. I read a little bit about each one and was able to get an idea of what kind of workshops they like to teach at Writespace. Since there were a lot of workshops this took up most of my time, but in the last twenty minutes or so I looked for articles about the types of writing that was taught in each workshop. I looked for articles...
