Josey - 6ft

6ft (9) 12/2/19 I went back to 6ft press today after Thanksgiving break and got back to work on the marketing plan. I did this for a while before showing it to Mr. Voorhees and doing some improvments. I started to make more of a plan on how to get reviews for a book on Goodreads, Amazon and also ways to help people get more of an idea of where they can get the book. This took me a while as I tried to go around and find people who wrote good reviews and figure out way to get them to find the book. Most of the stuff I found was on making sure the author is active on this social media and that being this way is a great option for having more people find the book. This took me a while to figure out everything but once I did I was able to find some good strategies that I think would work really well. This took the whole time I was there but at the end I got to meet some people he works with which was interesting to see what he does. 6ft (8) 11/20/19 I went to 6ft press again and went to...

Josey - Writespace Blog

Writespace (20) 12/12/19 It had been a while since I went back to Writespace due to Thanksgiving break and also a board meeting but when I got there I started by taking a few quick pictures for my blog on the website. After I finished this I moved on to adding all of the free events to google calendar. Some of these events are open to everyone while some are open just to members. These can be weekly write-ins, where anyone can come and write a few words, but it could also be social events where you can meet like minded writers. Having events like these to socialize and meet people with similar itnerests to you is a good way to explore nad find more motivation to follow your interest. Once I finished up with this I moved on to doing a little bit of fun research on finding a customizable plaque or trophy to serve as a prize for someone with the most writing over the year. It was kind of fun to look around and see hat worked while still trying to stay within budget because I figured mone...

Josey - 6ft (4) 10/23/19

I went back to 6ft press today and actually went to the building for the second time in total. I was excited to go back because last time I had gone I ended up having a very enjoyable first time. I got settled then learned about what I would be doing. I started by writing the address of all of the people who needed to receive a certain package. This all went on stickers and once I was done I organized all the books and put them into envelopes. The two books I was using were books that have not been published yet, but in a week or two they will be published, so for now they are being sent out to apply for awards and for book lists. Most of them were sent out to be considered for the rainbow book list, but I also had some that were to be considered for a certian award. Although it was not super difficult work, it still took some focus to make sure I didn't mess up any of the sames or spelling and to make sure everything was addressed to go to the correct place. I actually had a reall...

Josey - Writspace (14) 10/10/19

I went back to Writspace today and immediately got started with adding emails to the mailchimp list. This is a pretty straightforward task I have done before, but I again faced the challenge of trying to decipher many peoples handwriting. After working on this for about 20 minutes I moved on to creating posters. One needed to be made to tell people the wifi and password, and one needed to be made to show where the kitchen, and restrooms were for when workshops were being hosted. It took me a while to figure out how everything worked, but once I did I had a lot of fun being a little creative in my work. Once I finished this I moved on to try to find festivals around Houston that Writespace could have a promotional booth at. This took me a while but I realized how important it is for small organizations like this to be able to promote themselves even in small ways. I worked on this for about thirty minutes trying to look around and find writing related festivals, or even arts festivas wh...

Josey - Writespace (13) 10/3/19

This week I went back to Writespace and started immediatly with filling out the monthly calendar. While doing this I got a chance to see all of the different workshops that were coming up, and also all the different trypes of workshops that are offered. There are many workshops that happen just once, but there are also workshops that repeat every week, are online or are collaborative with a differnent organization. I got a chance to see all these events and also to see the socials that happen or the get posted parties. This gave me an opportunity to get a grasp of the wide variety of workshops that are happening every month and also how busy they are. After I finished that I went back to writing posts for facebook. This was the same thing I did last week so I was getting pretty used to it, but I was again glad to get the chance to use a little of my writing skills and to try to find things that would be captivating to a reader. I wrote several of these and this took up the rest of my t...

Josey - 6ft (3) 10/2/19

Because Mr. Voorhees had to leave to go to New York at 11 today, he sent me work to do from schooll again. This time I had to find challenges that small independant publishers like 6ft press might face. I wasn't really sure what I was looking for at first, but I started to find things that were difficult especially relating to problems with technology development. After I found problems I was supposed to try to find solutions to these. I worked on finding examples in the realy world of when these solutions would becoe relevent. This took me some time, especially finding the challenges in the first place, but once I found some I realized there were a lot of things that could pose as a challenge. I saw how much technology and the internet can impact a publishing company and how it is important to find ways to work around this and stay relavent. It was a little challenging to find ways to work around these problems but eventually I found some articles that had some information about h...

Josey - Writespace (12) 9/26/19

I went back to Writespace and started out by finding links about the workshops again. For this I have to research what the worshop is about then find articles relating to that. This took me about half an hour to finish all of these, then I moved on to writing some promo posts for facebook. This took a little bit of effort to figure out what each workshop is about and a way to relate it a little bit to the real world but in a way that is interesting to the reader. So I worked on a few of these and I actually really enjoyed writing some stuff but trying to do it in a way that is interesting and engaging. Once I wrote these for facebook and twitter I also had to work on promoting events for certain companies. These places wanted Writespace to promote their events so I would either summarize something they had given us or write stuff off of their website. All of this took some time but I was happy to get to do some writing and also to be able to work on something where I could be a little ...
