It had been a while since I went back to Writespace due to Thanksgiving break and also a board meeting but when I got there I started by taking a few quick pictures for my blog on the website. After I finished this I moved on to adding all of the free events to google calendar. Some of these events are open to everyone while some are open just to members. These can be weekly write-ins, where anyone can come and write a few words, but it could also be social events where you can meet like minded writers. Having events like these to socialize and meet people with similar itnerests to you is a good way to explore nad find more motivation to follow your interest. Once I finished up with this I moved on to doing a little bit of fun research on finding a customizable plaque or trophy to serve as a prize for someone with the most writing over the year. It was kind of fun to look around and see hat worked while still trying to stay within budget because I figured money can be pretty important. Lastly I worked on entering data through donorsnap which is a website that helps keep track of donation through members. THis was tedious work, but it was also important work that had to be done. I would type their names then enter the type of contact that was made, whether it was through a phone call, text or email then I would enter them into the website. Overall I had a good time at Writespace and I felt like I was pretty productive and got a lot done.

This week I went back to Writepace and it turns out it was cleaning day. So I helped out with this for the first few minutes by cleaning the whiteboard, dusting some of the shelves and watering the plants. This only took the first couple of minutes so after that I started adding to evaluation tracker where I kept track of events and the tickets that people had bought for them. Next I added emails to eventbrite and started drafting emails to be sent to members and other people. Although it was tedious work and took some time I was able to get it done although it did take up the rest of my time at Writespace. Because of the cleaning it felt like the time I was there went by pretty quickly and I had a good time learning about the emails and other work that goes out to be sent to members.

I went back to Writespace this week and finished up with some work I had done a little while ago. I was checking to make sure all the ticket prices and event information was entered correctly into eventbrite, where the tickets for workshops are sold. Although this is not extremely hard work, it does require some attention to detail to make sure all the dates and prices are correct and they are going on sale at the right time. Once I finished this I moved on to updating events in google calendar. I had done this a while ago, so I remembered what I was doing and went to work making sure everything had the correct times set as well as all the information people would need about the workshop. This shows me a little bit about how important it is for poeple to be organized in their work. With the calendar updated people can see when they have what going on and how they need to work. This also shows a little bit about how busy Writespace is. After I finished and looked back on the calendar I saw how many evets were going on, several all at the same time and this seemed like it was a lot to manage. Although it was work I had done before I was still glad to be able to pay more attention to the little details and more about what goes on the stay organized at Writespace.

This week I went to Writespace and started off with gathering promotional pictures to put next to events. I got to explore the world of shutterstock and look through pictures that would fit the theme. Although there were a lot I liked I had to be careful about which ones I chose because of the download limit they had on them. After this I started to update the pages they have for the events and try to make them more recent. This took a little bit of time but I also enjoyed it because I was able to learn about upcoming events, about socials and about waht they needed promotional wise. Although it took me some time to figure out how to work the program that did this once I figured it out it was pretty straightforward and I was able to get a decent amount of work done. While I was doing this I was thinking about how important it is to have these promotional and social events in an organization. It helps to spread word but it also helps people to get to know others who are helping out with the same thing they are. This makes it a pretty good reason to have all these events going on in an organization to help promote people and feel more at home at more encouraged to work in the organization.

This week I went back to Writespace and immediatly got started with adding some emails to mailchimp. I have done this several before and it is very straight forward but I was still glad when there were not too many email addresses with handwriting I could not decipher. Once I finished this I moved on to writing on the calendar board for the month of November. Doing this always gives me a good idea of all the different types of workshops that will be going on over the next month. I get to see a wide range from Yoga of the body, to speculative fiction and see workshops on genres of writing I didn't even know existed. Once I finished this I moved on to updating the website with member socials. First I had to find some photos and I had a good time going through shutterstock to see which photos I could find. After this I would add them to the website and then work on editing the description to fit the new event. I have started to notice that there is constantly something to be added or taken away from the website. It seems like the work to edit and adjust the content on it is never done. Just what I did today took a lot of time and effort and I realized how something that could be such a small detail to someone can end up taking a huge amount of time.

I went bakc to Writespace today after a week break and immediatly got to work putting blogs into the website. These were blogs about new writers and people that were being promoted or are involved with Writespace. I learned about all the different formatting that goes into the website and then tried my best to mimick it. Afterwords I added the same events to the calendar and also put them on facebook. Because I was using all of the same events and information I was able to see how important it is to try to get your events promoted accross all platforms. You want to try and get it on your website, on social media, and on any place that people might stumble accross it and be interested. After I finished this I began to make a poster for the upcoming November membership drive. I worked trying to accomodate for a lot of information on not a lot of space and tried to find ways to get hte key points across. This gave me a chance to be a little more creative in my work and I was glad to be able to try and help find solutions to problems. I feel like I was pretty helpful today because I got a lot done and am glad I was able to learn about all the ways to promote people and events.
